The Mackwell LIA Certificate Course Outstanding Student of 2018 has been announced…

The LIA Education and Training programme is dedicated to providing practical, recognised lighting courses and education for those working and involved in the lighting industry. The Certificate Course is developed to provide an excellent grounding in lighting for a wide audience and has proven to be a catalyst for many years.

Mackwell has been a proud sponsor of this prestigious award for over 6 years now, and alongside their continued support for the Investors in People management standard since 1991 they continue to value the importance of knowledge and training. This will be accentuated through their upcoming emergency lighting workshops launching this year.

The LIA focuses on maintaining high standards of professionalism, expertise and ethical standards, to ensure that products and services are of the strictest quality, meeting all relevant regulations.

Each year students submit their final project for judging. This year five finalists were chosen from over one hundred entries.

The finalists were:

  • Rebecca Walton from Steon Lighting
  • Jess Costanzo from Simmtronics Lighting Controls
  • Ben Farrell from Apollo Lighting
  • Sarah Burke from Tyson Lighting
  • And Charlotte Millerchip from Into Lighting

The finalists presented their work on the 26th April at the Academy based in Telford, to the judging panel consisting of LIA Certificate Tutors Bob Bohannon, Paul Stearman and Iain Macrae and Mackwell’s Support Services & Training Manager, Peter Adams.

The finalists attended the LIA's Annual Luncheon Event on 10th May at Drapers Hall in London where the Mackwell Outstanding Student of the Year was announced by LIA President, Dave Ribbons and CEO Steve Davies.

The Mackwell Outstanding Student of the Year went to Sarah Burke from Tyson Lighting, who was presented with the crystal LIA Certificate Award Bowl, along with a certificate and cheque for £500.

The runners up were Charlotte Millerchip from Into Lighting and Rebecca Walton from Steon Lighting. They also received a crystal bowl, certificate and cheque for £250.

All the Finalists should be commended on their professionalism, the time and energy put into their projects and their exceptional presentations.

Mackwell continues to support and practice these core principles to provide exceptional quality and service by investing in its employees. Valuing these standards through the Education and Training award is a small step that Mackwell are delighted to continue to support.
