CASE OVERVIEW
Housed in a 1920s neoclassical mansion with a ten-storey new extension, the collection of Art curated by Basil and Elise Goulandris has become the centre piece of Athens Museum of Contemporary Art. The building, 7,300 square meters spread over eleven floors, six of which are below ground, contains space for permanent and temporary exhibits as well as an amphitheatre, library a Café and workshops for children and adults. The top floors show stunning views of the Acropolis whilst inside the walls are laden with Picasos’ and Renoir’s.
Therefore the emergency lighting scheme needed to accommodate for potentially housing occupants of a wide age range and consider the challenge of no natural light. The museum also has several flights of stairs with no lift available in an emergency situation.
