Hoare Lea Lighting successfully designed and implemented the lighting of the 14th Century Dining Hall whilst keeping to the strict brief from the college to remain faithful to the original architecture and finishes.
The new scheme had to provide a contemporary lighting scheme suitable for various functions as the Dining Hall is used on a daily basis as a cafeteria as well as regular ‘Formal Hall’ dining, and for events, such as conferences and wedding ceremonies. Founded in 1350, Trinity Hall is one of the oldest Colleges of Cambridge University with the Dining Hall structured in a traditional medieval style, with a High Table on the dais at the far end of the room, where the Master and Fellows still sit for functions today. With stained glass crests, gold-leaf coated friezes and pillars and historical portraits depicting past Masters, Deans and distinguished members of the College, the Hall is a perfect setting for a meal for up to 150 guests.
Mackwell’s XYLUX LD3 self-contained emergency LED luminaires were perfect for the project to provide fully compliant emergency lighting with no compromise in the overall aesthetic feel to the lighting scheme. The XYLUX LD3 also features Mackwell’s SmartCharge™ technology that reduces the operating temperature to provide optimum service life and energy efficient charging. The built-in reflector also ensures impressive light distribution.
The non-mantained luminaires incorporate a 3W white LED module and battery pack and can be either surface mounted or recessed using the mounting brackets supplied with the unit. XYLUX LD3 is also available with AutoTest® and DALI AutoTest® functionality.
