SMALL INTEGRATED

Product Overview

Integrated Mains Ballast & Emergency Modules

The Small Lamp Integrated range is a combined high frequency ballast and emergency lighting unit capable of driving a single 6W or 8W T5 fluorescent lamp in both mains and emergency mode.

The unit is designed to use common neutral switched and un-switched supplies and is suitable for use with Mackwell 3 cell NiCd or NiMH batteries.

Features
Cathode Heating
The permanent cathode heating improves starting and life performance, especially at low power levels in modern low mercury lamps.

End of Life Protection
End of lamp life protection ensures shutdown to prevent ballast damage. The ballast automatically restarts when the lamp is replaced. Shutdown activates under the following conditions:
  • Lamp operates, but one cathode is de-activated or broken.
  • Lamp operates, but with both cathodes de-activated or broken.
  • Lamp operates, but with strongly increased lamp voltage, e.g. leak-in of impurities.
  • Lamp does not start, but both cathodes are intact (e.g. cracked lamp)
Voltage Sensing Circuit
The AC power supply is sensed so that switching occurs at between 60% and 85% of the nominal mains supply.

Indicator
The LED indicator is illuminated when a charge is flowing to the cells. Flexible 1x0.6mm high temperature orange and pink leads connect the indicator to the module. The indicator requires a 8mm hole.

Deep Discharge Protection
The inverter module incorporates deep discharge protection (DDP), to prevent damage to the batteries caused by deep discharge and possible subsequent reverse cell polarity.
Technology Options
Standard
For applications where self-testing is not required or suitable, the non-AutoTest® option provides the same quality and performance expected of Mackwell products, without the AutoTest® feature.
Relevant Standards
  • EN 61347-1
  • EN 61347-2-3
  • EN 61347-2-7
  • EN 60598-2-22
  • BS 5266-1

Notes
Non-Switched applications
For continuous mains lamp operation the switched live can be permanently connected to the un-switched live supply using a suitable link.

Switched applications
Connect a switched supply to the switched live terminal. To preserve lamp life, it is advisable that the unit is used for applications with infrequent switching and long burning hours. It is recommended the lamp is left on in mains mode for a least 3 hours between switchings (i.e. no more than 8 switchings per day).

Caution
Do not insulation test this product. The rectified output of these modules may lead to mercury migration of the lamps. Reversing battery polarity will cause damage.
